PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 2 (1 submission)
Description:The student chapter of the National Art Education Association promoted art in the community. We did this by an activity at the local sweet corn festival. We made corn husk dolls and anyone could come and make them with us.
Rationale: 7N: advances his or her knowledge of current developments in the field by participating in professional development activities (e.g., coursework, professional organizations, and workshops).
Evidence: Corn festival NAEA activity was a great way to reach out to the kids of the community. I was able to work one on one with kids to made a simple but fun project. I learned that some kids can be a lot more creative and come up with ideas to make the doll its own.
CLINICAL OBSERVATION WRITTEN REFLECTION
7A: understands child development and the psychological principles of learning and how they apply to visual arts education.
Description: I observed elementary art classes at Metcalf Elementary School. I observed different classes at different grade levels. I observed for a total of six hours and wrote about my experiences.
Rationale: I got a lot out of my experience observing the students of Metcalf. To read about my full experience go to the link provided has my observations from my time at the elementary school.
ARTWORK WITH CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT WORK
4F: creates artwork that demonstrates the process of problem solving and creative exploration.
Description: I made this for my art education class. For this project I went through three steps to create a complete work. First I found an object from nature and drew three large realistic sketches. From those I abstracted them and drew six small drawings trying out ideas. I added color and worked on finding what idea I wanted for my final drawing. When I decided what I wanted to make for my final drawing, chose the medium and colors and then created the final product.
Rationale: Breaking down and going through the process of creating a work has really good experience to see how helpful this can be for students. Sometimes it can be easy to jump right into a final project. But with this process stepping back the work can be even better than originally thought. I was able to go through the process with this project. I problem solved to see what was the best angle to draw my object. I worked to find a way to abstract it and make a final color piece.
STUDIO ASSIGNMENT
1E: analyzes and demonstrates the elements and principles of design.
Description: This project was for my art education class. We were to draw a building or something from a built world. I drew a line drawing of a building on paper. I then transferred that image to a sheet of styrofoam. I made some paper backgrounds some collaged and some solid colors. I then rolled different colored ink and printed them on the paper I prepared.
Rationale: Though this project I was able to demonstrate my knowledge and understanding of the principles and elements of art. More particularly the use of line and shape. I did this when I drew the line drawing of the building. I was also able to show my knowledge of balance. I did this when I choose my location of the building and when I was making my collages.
PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 1 (1 submission)
7G: understands the need for continuing study, self-evaluation, and professional growth.
Description: I attended the Illinois Art Education Association conference. At the conference I went to a printmaking workshop. learned the process of how to make screen prints and we printed a three color print.
Rationale: This was one of the first times I worked with print making. Jay Ryan a printmaking artist lead the workshop and let us work hands on. We did a three color layer print. He had all the things ready but we got to pull the ink on the paper. He went step by step and gave us ideas of how we can bring this into the classroom. I got to take home a print I made. I loved this workshop I learned so much. I really think the things I learned I can make my own screen prints. I can even work on a lesson plan and bring this into the classroom.

1G analyzes and evaluates (critiques) artworks for aesthetic qualities are used to convey intent, expressive ideas, and/or meaning
Description: This is a piece of artwork I made for my 2-D fundamentals class at ISU. The assignment was to use shapes and color to make other shapes visually.
Rationale: I was able create a unified piece of art. The blocks of color and void of color creates several shapes even ones that are implied. The colors are balanced and they go well together. The two different grouping of shapes are balanced. Over all the colors and shapes come together to make a unite in the piece.
